Graduate School Communication Portfolio Archive
This section includes selected graduate-level communication, leadership, ethics, and digital storytelling projects that I completed while earning a master’s degree in Communication and Leadership Studies (COML) at Gonzaga University, from which I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was invited to join the prestigious Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Association Honor Society.
Highlights of my coursework can be found below.

COML 601/602 – Leadership Capstone
- Capstone Project – My final project deviated a bit from the original project proposal submitted in COML 601. For my final project I created a website detailing effective communication techniques for newly elected state and federal representatives and senators. This six-page website featured real-world examples of social media content and constituent communication techniques rooted in ethical leadership.
- Capstone Project Proposal – The original proposal for my final project was the creation of a 10-20 page guidebook entitled “Effective Communication Techniques for the Newly Elected,” detailing effective communication techniques for new state or federal representatives or senators. It was designed to be a guide for anyone new to either Congress or a state legislature.
COML 504 – Organizational Communication
- Communication Audit – I conducted a communication audit of Magnolia Cooperative Preschool, the largest cooperative preschool in Seattle, WA. The audit includes an analysis of organizational structure, interpretation of two organizational system theories, narrative analysis, three proposed surveys for internal and external stakeholder audiences, and three specific recommendations for improvement
- Critical Analysis Essay – Summary and critical analysis of the theories, findings, strengths, and weaknesses detailed in the scholarly article Social Media and Communication in Organizations, published in 2012 by Jim Macnamara and Ansgar Zerfass in the International Journal of Strategic Communication.
COML 512 – Strategic & Corporate Communication
- Crisis Communication Analysis – Examining how Starbucks and United Airlines reacted to separate media-intensive communication crises. Includes an analysis of company roles and priorities, internal and external stakeholders, tactics and strategies, timeline and resources, and a measurement of positive and negative impact related to the incidents
- Communication Checklist – A communication checklist for the NextGen Cup Challenge, a Starbucks corporate initiative
COML 597 – Communication Ethics
- Personal Ethical Leadership and Action Plan – An outline of my personal ethical leadership philosophy and an “action plan” to ethically influence Starbucks
- Ethical Evaluation of Seattle’s 2014 Minimum Wage Debate – An evaluation of the dialogic ethics surrounding the 2013-2014 minimum wage debate in Seattle, WA
